Nikon's announcement of 28 March 2014 states that, with regard to the issue in which multiple granular dust spots are reflected in images captured with the D600, it would continue to offer a special service inspecting and cleaning cameras and, if necessary, replacing the shutter and related parts free of charge, even after the product warranty had expired. Where multiple granular dust spots were still noticeable after that service had been performed several times, Nikon replaced the camera with a new D600 or an equivalent model.
The programme began with a service advisory on 22 February 2013 and was updated on 26 February and 10 April 2014. Nikon subsequently announced that it would no longer accept requests under the programme after 10 January 2020, after which servicing for this issue is charged under standard repair policy.
That expiry materially changes the risk of buying an unserviced D600 today, which is why the archive records when a programme ends and not only that one existed.
